Artist's Statement
My nightmares drawing displays a burglary scene in a typical neighborhood throughout an ordinary night. The dream originated from a young girl who is peacefully sleeping. Behind the calm facial expression, a nightmare is unfolding in her dreams. Several burglars are capturing a series of houses- breaking in, stealing items and money, and threatening to harm the homeowners. I drew the evidence of the robbers breaking in to show the damage and danger that they had caused. I also drew the setting of a "peaceful night" to make the picture more dramatic. The burglars are disrupting the perfect peaceful night. Lastly, I drew the scene of the police officer chasing one of the robbers because I wanted to show that the police were aware of the situation and taking control over it.
Shoe Drawings
Artists Statement:
When brainstorming ideas for creating a theme for my shoe drawing, I took in consideration hobbies and interests that tell a part of me. At first, I struggled with trying to come up with a creative drawing that would look fitting on a shoe. However, I wanted my art to have a subject on something that I am passionate about. Therefore, I decided to base my art around tennis. My artwork's focal point is a large neon yellow tennis ball in the center, with a twisted net surrounding the background and empty space around the ball. What inspired my creation of my artwork is the passion that I have for tennis. My main goal for my artwork was for the twisted net to turn out looking realistic and 3D. Overall, I am happy with the way the twisted net turned out. Overall, this artwork challenged me by making sure that I didn't make unnecessary errors because there was not going back with permanent marker. Also, the net challenged me to think outside of the box to create something more unique, rather than just simplicity. My final piece turned out pretty much the way I imagined it and I am happy that I pursued my idea of tennis rather than my original idea of mountains.
Animal Scratchboard
Artist's Statement:
When first considering which animal I should display on my scratchboard, I took into consideration the personal experiences in my life that have turned me into the person that I am today. I came up with the idea of a butterfly because they symbolize growth and change and I have had several impactful changes in my life that have helped me grow. My artwork's focal point is the large butterfly in the center of the page with flowers and stems surrounding the background. My main goal for this artwork was for the butterfly to be symmetrical on both sides. Although it is not 100% symmetrical, I am happy with the design on the wings. This project challenged me in some way because it was very difficult not being able to erase mistakes on a scratchboard, especially when I was trying to make it symmetrical. Overall, I am happy with the way my scratchboard turned out and it was a fun project getting to learn how to use scratchboard.
Figure Drawings
Artist's Statement
When creating my figure drawings, a main focus I had was to try to draw only what I saw, not what my brain imagined I was seeing. Although this was difficult, continuously drawing multiple figure drawings each day helped my skills improve. One struggle I had was drawing joints inside of the body and clothing on the outside of the body. One benefit I took away from figure drawings was learning how to create realistic people in different positions.
